Scholarly articles, in general, are articles published in an academic journal. Most academic journals are peer-reviewed and publish articles on topics relating to a particular academic discipline.

Peer-reviewed articles are articles judged by independent experts (scholarly or scientific peers) and approved before being published in a journal. Peer-reviewed journals are journals that contain peer-reviewed articles. You might also hear the term refereed; this is another name for peer-reviewed.
